Importing
Bank & card statements
What file formats can I import?
OFX, QFX, CSV and PDF. Export one from your bank or card issuer's website, then open Tools → Import Wizard in the sidebar (or use Connect bank (Plaid) on the Dashboard). OFX/QFX/CSV are the most accurate; PDF statements are parsed too.
Can I connect a bank automatically?
Yes — on the Dashboard choose Connect bank (Plaid) for supported institutions. Synced transactions use the same dedup, categorization and subscription detection as file imports. You can also keep using manual file imports only if you prefer.
Will it create duplicate transactions?
No. ClearMint Essentials detects duplicates by transaction ID, or by matching date, original description and amount per account — so re-importing the same statement is safe.
It can't read my PDF statement.
PDF layouts vary by bank, so parsing can miss rows. If a PDF doesn't come through cleanly, export OFX, QFX or CSV from your bank instead — those are structured and import exactly.
Can I check an import against my statement?
Yes. Import can capture the statement's opening and closing balance, and the reconciliation wizard matches your records to those balances, flags duplicates and missing date ranges, and marks the account reconciled once it ties out.
My account or card was created automatically — why?
When you import a statement, we create the matching account or card from the file so your transactions have a home. You can rename or edit it on the Bank Accounts / Credit Cards page.
Using the app
Entries & totals
How do I add a transaction by hand?
Use "Manual transaction" on the Dashboard or Transactions page. Choose a bank account or card, the date, amount, direction (in/out), category and notes.
How are my dashboard totals calculated?
Income = bank credits (excluding transfers) + card credits + standalone Income entries. Expenses = bank debits (excluding transfers) + card purchases + standalone Expense entries. Bills are a planning layer shown under "Upcoming bills" until the matching transaction appears.
Can I edit cells directly?
Yes — click a cell in any table to edit it inline. You can also sort columns, search, and filter by date, account, category, type or source.
How do budgets work?
Open Budget Planner to set monthly category limits. Each bar shows a pace marker for where on-track spending should be this far into the month. Tap Suggest from spending to fill budgets from your recent averages, and watch "left to budget" against your income.
How do I track net worth and debt?
The Net Worth tab combines assets and liabilities into one figure over time. Add property or vehicles with their loan to see equity bars, then compare snowball and avalanche payoff strategies across cards and loans.
How do subscriptions get detected?
ClearMint flags recurring charges from your import history in the Subscriptions tab — with cadence, cost, upcoming renewals and price-increase alerts. You can confirm, cancel or reactivate each one.
How do I export my data?
Every table has an "Export CSV" button. To back up everything, go to Settings → "Export all data (JSON)".
What is the AI assistant and is my data safe?
Open it from the floating assistant button. Ask about your own finances in plain language — it reads across your tabs and answers with your real figures. It's for convenience, not financial advice. Only what's needed to answer is sent to our AI provider; if you rate an answer we keep the rating and your question, never the answer or your figures. See our Privacy Policy.
How far ahead does the cash-flow forecast go?
Up to 12 months on the Cash Flow tab. It projects from your recurring income, bills and expenses, and factors in sinking funds, upcoming one-offs and a safety buffer so you can see your lowest projected balance.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. ClearMint Essentials is in beta as a responsive web app — use it in your browser on desktop, tablet or phone. Wide tables become tap-friendly cards on smaller screens. There is no native iOS or Android app to download today.
Account & billing
Plans, sign-in & data
What does Essentials include?
One plan with everything: unlimited accounts and cards, household sharing, OFX/QFX/CSV/PDF import, optional Plaid sync, AI assistant, budgets, net worth, subscriptions, calendar, reports, cloud sync and export. See Pricing — $7.99/mo or $79/yr CAD with a 30-day free trial.
Do I need an account?
You can explore locally with data in your browser, but create an account to sync across devices and keep your workspace backed up in the cloud.
How do I sign in?
Use Google, Microsoft, Apple or Facebook, or an email and password. For your security, you're signed out automatically after a period of inactivity (adjustable in Settings).
Can I share finances with my partner?
Yes — invite someone from Settings → Household. Shared accounts, transactions, bills and budgets are visible to everyone in the household; personal budgets and rules stay private to each member.
Can I use another currency or language?
Yes. Your currency is detected from your region and can be changed in Settings — accounts can be held in different currencies and converted to one display total with live exchange rates. The interface is available in English, Português (Brasil) and Español.
How do I change or cancel my plan?
Manage your subscription from the Stripe receipt email, or from Settings → Plan & Billing in the app. Cancel anytime — you keep access through the end of the paid period.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Data & Privacy → Clear data on this device wipes only this browser (cloud stays). Delete last import removes your latest import. For permanent account deletion, use Request account deletion or email support — see Data Deletion.
